    Employees’ State Insurance Corporation is one of the two main statutory social security bodies under the ownership of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. Any establishment having more than 10 employees (20 employees in some states) drawing a salary of Rs. 21,000 pm is eligible for ESIC registration. ESI is an Insurance scheme for employees and their families against the event of medical emergencies such as disease, sickness, maternity, death, or disablement due to employment. ESIC registration and its provisions are stated in the ESIC Act 1948. This Act applies to all the states of India except Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram.

    ESI REGISTRATION APPLICABILITY

    ESI registration applies to factories employing 10 or more persons irrespective of whether power is used in the process of manufacturing or not. Under section 1 (5) of the act, the ESI Scheme applies to factories and other establishments viz. such as Cinemas, Newspapers, Restaurants, Road Transport, Hotels, Shops, and Educational/Medical Institutions wherein 10 or more persons are employed at any time. Further, u/s 1(5) of the Act, the ESI scheme has been extended to Private Medical and Educational Institutions employing 20 or more persons in certain states. .
